I know we were only meant to be doing blog celebrations for gold medals otherwise we really would be here all day thanks to Team GB’s amazing performance so far in these Olympics, but Beth Tweddle’s bronze in the gymnastics today is worth a big mention. Beth is the first British gymnast to win a medal at both European and World championships, is seven times British National Champion and three times Olympian. Further more she’s the only gymnast to ever make the shortlist for BBC Sports Personality of the Year, picking up 3rd place in 2006 and has blazed a trail for the profile of gymnastics in the UK throughout her career, however the one thing missing from her trophy cabinet has always been an Olympic medal. Until today.
Finally, this afternoon, Beth could add Olympic bronze Medallist to her CV as she took to the Uneven Bars at the North Greenwich Arena . In her swansong games Beth racked up a routine that earned her a 15.916 score, with only Russia’s Aliya Mustafina and China’s Kexin He scoring higher to take Gold and silver respectively. Oh and just to add, that makes Beth the first woman to win an individual medal in gymnastics EVER! A brilliant end for Beth Tweddle after an incredible and dedicated career.
