I’ve been waiting to use that line for a title ever since Laura Trott blasted her way onto the scene with a gold as part of the Women’s Team Pursuit earlier this week and with the close of the Omnion today she didn’t disappoint. Going into today in second place Laura left it to the last Omnion event, the 500m time trial, to make her mark in the history books and snatch gold from USA’s Sarah Hammer. Her achievement now enters her into a rapidly growing group of women to achieve double gold in one Olympics. Not bad for her first Games!
Also huge congratulations to Victoria Pendleton who retired from the world of track cycling this evening on a silver medal in the sprint final. It may not have been the result she wanted, however Pendleton’s legacy and dedication to cycling has brought on the world and profile of cycling and paved a track for upcoming talent like Trott. Her name will forever be associated with Women’s cycling and she should be proud of everything she has achieved over the last 8 years. Well Done Victoria and thank you!
Well Done Trotty!
